Fireyrook Catches Fire in First Saturday Classical Chess 2010, February Edition

In the last round of the First Saturday Classical Chess February 2010 edition, Firey Rook met up with Low Jun Keat to determine the top five finishers of the tournament.

Firey rook had to try something new against this young player. Firey rook chose the Morra Gambit of the Sicilian against Low Jun Keat who has a National Rating of 1590. Here is how the game transpired, it ended  in 18 moves with a definite win for white.

First mistake of the game - Black played 6….Bg4 which is an opening trap in this scenario. The black bishop is a loose piece that can be won enprise. White followed up with 7.Bxf7+ Kxf7, 8.Ng5+ and the black bishop is lost to the Queen.

Second mistake of the game and it was fatal! Black played 15….Qxb2 ??, this allowed white to sacrifice the rook at d4 and checks the black King, leaving the black King defenceless in the middle of the board. The end came quickly.

White played 18.Qc4+ with a mating attack, Black resigned.
