Jakovenko Declared European Individual Champion 2012!

1 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – GM Dmitry Jakovenko defeated GM Fressinet Laurent in the last and final round of the 13th European Individual Chess Championship 2012 giving him the winner’s rostrum and an unassailable 8.5 points. The other top boards drew their games and Jakovenko stood out alone on 8.5 points.

Kamaluddin Leads In IIU Open 2012

 Kamaluddin Yusof, Malaysia

31 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – At the International Islamic University Open 2012, Kamaluddin Yusof and six other players have scored two full points from two rounds of play. 64 players are registered for the Open Category. Five rounds will played today and the remaining three rounds tomorrow, Sunday, 1 April 2012.

Two other categories, Under-21 and Under-12 age-categoires, are concurrently being played at the tournament hall in IIU. In the U-21, Muhd Syakir Syazmeer b Azhar is the top seed with 110 players registered for that category. While in the U-12 category, Puteri Rifqah Fahada bt Azhar is the top seed with 38 players registered in that category.

Fressinet Sole Leader Before Last Round, Euro Individual

31 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Plovdiv Bulgaria, Fressinet Laurent is leading after winning his third board game of round 10 in the 13th EICC 2012. Fressinet has scored 8.0 points and is the current leader. Just behind him is Jakovenko Dmitry with 7.5 points. In the last round 11 today, Fressinet will meet Jakovenko on top board.

Malakhov-Matlakov-Akopian Jointly Leads Euro Individual

29 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – After the completion of round 8 of the 13th EICC 2012 in Plovdiv Bulgaria, three players comprising of GM Malakhov Vladimir (Russia), GM Matlakov Maxim (Russia) and GM Akopian Vladimir (Armenia) are leading jointly. They have scored 6.5 points. The tournament is still so close and anyone in the top 50 can still win this tournament depending how the rivals perform.

Trailing behind in a big bunch of 17 players with 6.0 points are Jones, Kuzubov, Vitiugov, Bacrot, Fressinet, Inarkiev, Andreikin, Kobalia, Vachier-Lagrave, Jobava, Vallejo, Azarov, Sokolov, Korobov, Volokitin, Khenkin, dan Istratescu.

Azarov’s Game Of Round 7, Euro Individual

28 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Here is the round 7 game that made Azarov Sergei of Bulgaria stand out during the 13th European Individual Chess Championship 2012. He won his game against the then leader Naiditsch Arkadij of Germany.

The official website of 13th EICC reported that Sergei Azarov 2667  (BLR),  ranked  32 in the starting  list, is  the  sole leader with 6.0/7.0 after beating  Arkadij Naiditsch 2702 (GER). Photo of tournament hall of top boards The leader of the German national team played inaccurately in the middle game and his position was already lost on  move 30.  Azarov  chose a slower but secure continuation and won the game in 73 moves. The rest of the top board games were drawn. The struggles of the seventh round have become more intense, which is evidenced by the fact that not a single game ended in less than two hours while most of the draws were made after more than four hours of play.Top Bulgarian GMs  Ivan Cheparinov 2664  (BUL) and Kiril  Georgiev  2671  (BUL) drew as White against Dmitry Jakovenko 2729 (RUS) and  Tamas Banusz  2583  (HUN)accordingly.Talented hope of Bosnia and Herzegovina  Dalibor Stojanovic 2471  (BIH) made his seventh consecutive draw against significantly higher rated Aleksander Delchev 2622 (BUL).

Azarov Leads In European Individual

28 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Plovdiv, Bulgaria, GM Azarov Sergei of Bulgaria is leading the European Individual after the seventh round of play. He scored 6.0 points. He beat Naiditsch on top board of round 7.

Meanwhile 12 players are bunched just behind him at 5.5 points. The players in this bunch comprise of Kuzubov, Jones, Fressinet, Inarkiev, Khismatullin, Malakhov, Vachier-Lagrave, Bologan, Matlakov, Korobov, Akopian and Istratescu.

Latest Pre Registered Players - Brunei Campomanes

27 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – On the fidetrainer’s blogspot, the latest preregistered list of players has been published for the upcoming Brunei Campomanes Memorial Open Championship from 7-12 April 2012.  From Malaysia, IM Mas Hafizulhelmi is participating and so are four other Malaysians which includes Yeoh Li Tian, Yit Ho San, Yit Ho Fong and Ding The How Dilwen.

27 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – At DATCC last Sunday, 25 March 2012, the Insofar Combined Tournament March edition was held. A grand total of 140 participants took part and one of the largest weekenders seen at the chess center.
Yeoh Li Tian had a wonderful tournament winning all seven rounds of rapid chess play, scoring 7 full points. While in second place is unknown Yusop Sahibul with 6 points. Third, Muhd Alfirdaus Md Nazir, fourth, Muhd Syazwan Zulkifli and fifth Kamaluddin Yusof. All three players scored 6 points.

26 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Plovdiv, Bulgaria, ten players are jointly leading the 13th European Individual Chess Championship 2012. Each scoring 5.0 points from six rounds of play. The leaders comprised of Naiditsch Arkadij, Fressinet Laurent, Kuzubov Yuriy, Jones Gawain, Inarkiev Ernestor, Khismatullin Denis, Vachier-Lagrave Maxime, Matlakov Maxim, Korobov Anton, and Azarov Sergei.
On third board, Khismatullin Denis beat Vtiugov Nikita, Naiditsch beat Sokolov on sixth board and Inarkiev Ernestor beat Rodshtein Maxim on seventh board.

Fressinet New Leader At Euro Individual 2012

25 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – At the 13th European Individual Chess Championship 2012 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Fressinet Laurent of France is the new leader. Bunched up at 4.5 points after round 5 are Fressinet, Kuzubov Yuriy of Ukraine and Gawain Jones of England.

Jones drew his game with Vitiugov Nikita on top board, while Fressinet Laurent won against Timofeev Artyom on third board and Kuzobov Yuriy won against Viktor Bologan on fifth board.

Here is the fifth round game between Laurent Fressinet of France and Artyom Timofeev of Russia during the 13th EICC, Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Fressinet won it with white pieces. With this win, it significantly pushed Fressinet to the top of the leader’s board at Plovdiv.

Gawain Jones Takes Leadership In Euro Individual 2012

25 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Gawain Jones of England has taken sole lead after round 4 in the 13th European Individual Chess Championship 2012. He beat Boris Savchenko of Russia on fifth board.

The official website of the European Individual Chess Championship 2012 reported that Gawain Jones 2635 (ENG) defeated Boris Savchenko 2580 (RUS) on board five and has become a sole leader with a perfect score after today’s fourth round achieving the fantastic rating performance of 3317. All other games on the first twelve boards were drawn, however not without lots of interesting collisions lasting for more than five hours.

 
In the Plovdiv hall of Novotel Plovdiv there was not a single game to finish before the first two hours. The first score was registered in the "Moscow" Hall  on  board 117 between Romain Edouard (FRA) and Nicolas Grandadam (SUI), which ended in less than 1.5 hours.

The game that  focused the attention of the  local fans was  played on board  six between Bulgarian champion Julian Radulski  and  top seed Fabiano Caruana  from  Italy. In  a worse position, playing black, the Bulgarian  GM  defended  cleverly  and drew the game in 72 moves.
Most of the  top  Bulgarian GMs also had a successful day today.

Aleksander Delchev 2622 (BUL)performed active play with the black pieces and drew his game against Etienne Bacrot  2706 (FRA).  Ivan Cheparinov 2664  (BUL)  won convincingly against Aleksandr Shimanov  2591 (RUS). Also Kiril Georgiev 2671  (BUL) defeated  with the black pieces Alexander Ipatov 2561 (TUR).

 
Boris Chatalbashev  2570 lost against Vladimir Malakhov  2705 (RUS) while  Petar Drenchev 2499 (BUL) drew against Viktor Erdos 2631 (HUN). Julian Radulski and Ivan Cheparinov have 3.5/4.0 points  followed by Kiril Georgiev and Alexander Delchev with 3 etc.

WGM Irina Bulmaga, Romanian

Romanian WGM  Irina Bulmaga 2307  continued her  successful race by winning this  time against Hungarian  Robert Ruck 2579. Bulmaga  has  now 3.0/4.0 points and is the best performing woman so far.


Antoaneta Stefanova  2531 (BUL) has 2.5/4.0 after defeating with  the  black pieces Asaf Givon  2340 (ISR) in only 18 moves.


Bartosz Socko 2647 from Poland played unconvincingly and lost against Hovhannes Gabuzyan 2441  (ARM).  Also  Vladimir Onischuk  2516 (UKR) suffered defeat against  14-year-old youngster Alexander Donchenko 2309 (GER) while Dragan Solak 2602 (TUR) lost against Kirill Alekseenko 2367 (RUS).


Gawain Jones  2635  (ENG)  takes sole  lead after the fourth round  with 4.0/4.0 followed by  nineteen  players with 3.5/4.0 etc.

In the fifth round Gawain Jones will play against Nikita Vitiugov. Some other pairings:

European Individual Chess Championship 2012

20 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Plovdiv, Bulgaria, chessdom.com reports that the European Individual Chess Championship 2012 takes place in Plovdiv (Bulgaria), March 19 – April 1, 2012. It is part of the World Chess Championship cycle as the top 23 players qualify for the World Cup.

For that reason we see a total of 300 titled players, 175 of which GMs and 70 IMs. Top seeded is GM Fabiano Caruana, who was also one of the main participants at the same venue during the 2008 edition of the competition (photo here). Scroll down for the full list of participants.

Expect live games daily with analysis by Houdini and special photo reports, as well as the most interesting news from the championship on the pages of Chessdom.com.

The championship will be organized in 11-round Swiss system in accordance with the ECU Tournament Rules and FIDE Laws of Chess. The rate of play will be 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.

1st UPM Chess Open Rapid 2012

19 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur - Here are the finalized details about 1st UPM CHESS OPEN RAPID 2012. Note that there are some changes for venue, entry fee (additional RM2 for national rating calculation purpose), prizes (increased), time (round 1 shall begin at 10am instead of 9.30am) and it is now national rated.

Organizers: UPM chess enthusiasts with cooperation from Bahagian Hal Ehwal Pelajar dan Alumi UPM, Seksyen Pembangunan Atlit UPM dan Zhong Hua Chess Club.

Registration: Registration shall be made on or before 29th March 2012(Thursday) through sms name and event to person in charge. Any late registration shall be penalized with additional fee RM5. Fee can be made on the day of the tournament.

Information about public transportation:
There is a KTM Serdang station which located nearby to UPM. Then one may take rapid KL bus U416 from KTM Serdang to UPM and alight from the bus at second last station where there is a white bridge above. Next, ask the security guard and take 5 min walk to Panggung Percubaan. Also, there are many taxis around Serdang area and one may take a taxi from KTM Serdang to Panggung Percubaan UPM.

Percawi Labour Day Team Chess Tournament 2012

19 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The PERCAWI Labour Day Team Chess Tournament 2012 has been announced by KLFTCA and will be held on 22nd April 2012 (Sunday) at DATCC, Kuala Lumpur.

Closing date is set on the 20th April 2012 (Friday).
