Abdullah Is Champion Of The May Edition Of First Saturday

Here are the latest results of the First Saturday Classical Chess May 2010 held at the Excel Chess Academy, OUG, Kuala Lumpur on two days, 15-16 May 2010.

Abdullah Che Hassan (pix), the favorite, won the First Saturday Classical Chess May 2010 with 5.5 points. In second place was Nor Azman Ismail with 4.0 points and in third, Jax Tham with 3.5 points. While Nor Izzudin Nor Azman was fourth with 3.5 points. And in fifth place was Tinjun Hao with 3.0 points, too!

Abdullah Leads After Round 3, First Saturday Classical Chess May 2010

15 May 2010, Kuala Lumpur - Here are the round 3 rankings and round 4 pairings of the First Saturday Classical Chess May 2010 that is being held at the Excel Chess Academy over the weekend 15-16 May 2010 in Overseas Union Garden, Kuala Lumpur. The FSCC is a six round chess tournament employing the classical chess time control of 90 minutes plus 30 sec increment.

Leading the pack is Abdullah Che Hassan with 3.0 points from three rounds. Second is Jax Tham with 2.0 pts and in third place is Nor Azman Ismail, also with 2.0 points.

Fireyrook Catches Fire in First Saturday Classical Chess 2010, February Edition

In the last round of the First Saturday Classical Chess February 2010 edition, Firey Rook met up with Low Jun Keat to determine the top five finishers of the tournament.

Firey rook had to try something new against this young player. Firey rook chose the Morra Gambit of the Sicilian against Low Jun Keat who has a National Rating of 1590. Here is how the game transpired, it ended  in 18 moves with a definite win for white.

First mistake of the game - Black played 6….Bg4 which is an opening trap in this scenario. The black bishop is a loose piece that can be won enprise. White followed up with 7.Bxf7+ Kxf7, 8.Ng5+ and the black bishop is lost to the Queen.

Second mistake of the game and it was fatal! Black played 15….Qxb2 ??, this allowed white to sacrifice the rook at d4 and checks the black King, leaving the black King defenceless in the middle of the board. The end came quickly.
