Round 1 Tie-Breaker Playoffs, 2nd Rd Pairings

Paehtz Elisabeth - GER 7 December 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Last night in Hatay, Turkey the round 1 tie-breaker playoffs were played during the Women’s World Chess Championship 2010 (WWCC2010). Seven last places to the second round were decided by rapid/blitz games and the results are as shown below:-

Koneru Humpy-India

The lucky seven players who succeeded to get to round 2 of the WWCC 2010 were Ruan Lufei, Zhang Xiaowen, Paehtz Elisabeth (pix top), Hoang Thanh Trang, Huang Qian, Skripchenko Almira and Dembo Yelena.

Thirty-two players go through to second round of the Women’s World Chess Championship 2010 among them are defending champion, Alexandra Kosteniuk of Russia, Koneru Humpy of India (pix left) and Hou Yifan of China.

Kosteniuk will meet Khukhashvili of Georgia in the second round, Koneru Humpy will face off with Jovanka Houska who got a free ride to the second round due to the absence of Polish player, Rajlich Iweta. Meanwhile Hou Yifan gets to play against Marinko Marina of Russia. Another interesting match-up is Ukraine’s Kateryna Lahno up against Hoang Thanh Trang of Hungary.
