7 December 2010, Kuala Lumpur – During the first round of the Women’s World Chess Championship 2010 in Hatay, Turkey, the other USA chess player still in the running is IM Anna Zatonskih who played against IM Lomineishvili Maia of Georgia. Anna wins 2-0 against Maia with sure tenacity.
Anna played the French Defense against Maia in the first game, 1st round played on the 4th December 2010. The game ended with Anna having two rooks, three connected kingside pawns and one queenside pawn against white’s three isolated pawns, one rook and a bishop.
In the second game, Anna played the Symmetrical English Opening (1.c4 ) against Maia. It was touch-and-go as the ending was close where white had three pawns against black’s two pawns with the same coloured bishops on the board.
Anna Zatonskih is the only American chess player that got through to the second round of the Women’s World Chess Championship 2010. Her other American chess colleague, Baginskatie, Camilla crashed out in the 1st round playoffs last night. A post about her game against Ruan Lufei is shown here.
