Dimakiling Takes Over Lead In Penang Open 2011

8 December 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the 3rd Penang Heritage City International Chess Open 2011 in Penang, IM Dimakiling Oliver of Philippines takes over leadership by winning his round 6 encounter with IM Nguyen Van Huy of Vietnam on top board. Dimakiling now has scored 5.5 points  and is sole leader.
IM Mas Hafizulhelmi of Malaysia, has now climbed into the top 10 of the Penang Open with a win against Looi Xin Hao on the fifth board with a score of 4.5 points from six rounds of play.
Tomorrow, 9 December 2011, IM Mas will meet defending champion, IM Dimakiling Oliver of PHI on top board during the 7th round of play. Best of luck to IM Mas in his endeavours!

Meanwhile in the Challengers Section, Mohd Faizal b Roslan has caught up with the leaders and is now joint leaders with Teh De Juan and Soh Isaak Ethan Hong Han. All three players scored 5.5 points each.

Faizal scored an important win over Gero Kuich, the top seed on board two during round 6 play, while the top board game between Teh and Soh ended in a draw.

Tomorrow, Faizal plays on top board against Teh De Juan to battle for sole leadership of the Challengers Section of the Penang Heritage City Chess Tournament 2011.
