Dimakiling Among Leaders After Round 2, Penang Open

6 Dec 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the Penang Heritage City International Open 2011, defending champion IM Dimakiling Oliver of the Philippines is among the pack of 15 players with the perfect score of 2 points from 2 rounds of play.

IM Nguyen Van Huy of Vietnam, IM Nguyen Duc Hoa, IM Dableo Ronald and IM Mas Hafizulhelmi among the early leaders at Penang Open. Youngster Yeoh Li Tian was playing on top board against IM Nguyen, while Yeap Eng Cheam of Malaysia played against the defending champion IM Dimakiling. Both lost their games.

Veteran Loo Swee Leong played on board 2 against IM Nguyen Duc Hoa. Malaysian player Elgin Lee Kah Meng fresh from his Turkey exploits in the Under-14 team Chess Olympiad, also lost to FM Carlos Leonardo. Stonemaster’s brother Fairin Zakaria won against Asian Amateur Unrated Champion 2011, Manaog Stewart of the Philippines. Gilocatur’s son, Fikri Saleh beat Saprin’s son, Amir Qayyim in round 2 on board 34.

The chief arbiter of the event is Abdul Hamid Majid and tournament director, Tan Eng Seong.
