23 January 2011, Kuala Lumpur - Mark Crowthers of TWIC reports the happenings of round 7, Tata Steel Chess - Hikaru Nakamura beat Jan Smeets to take the lead in the A-Group when his unusual variation of the Botvinnik Variation eventually paid dividends. Viswanathan Anand won't be too unhappy just yet after a very quick draw as black against Magnus Carlsen who really needed a win to get into contention but his opening choice was insipid. Levon Aronian moved 3rd after beating an out of sorts Alexander Grischuk. Vladimir Kramnik had a pretty easy win against Anish Giri. The remaining games were drawn with only Shirov - Wang having any real interest. The B-Group was blown wide open when Luke McShane blundered coming up to the first time control against Le Quang Liem. Wesley So joins McShane on 5/7 after his third win in a row.
