22 November 2011, Kuala Lumpur – In the SEA Games, the last chess event was the Blitz and Philippines won the gold through its GM Wesley So with 9.0 points. In second was Vietnam, GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and third, GM Paragua Mark of the Philippines. Malaysia missed a medal when IM Mas Hafizulhelmi finished in a distant fourth place with 4.5 points.
In the women blitz, Vietnam won gold from WIM Hoang Thi Nhu Y with 7.0 points. Indonesia won the silver and bronze medals in the blitz.
