8 February 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the Young WGM Moscow Chess Open 2011, GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (pix left, courtesy of open.moscochess.ru) was declared the winner with 7.0 points from 9 rounds of play from the 29 January 2011 to 6th February 2011.
Kosteniuk beats nine other women chess players in her group. At the closing ceremony, she remarked that “it is always a pleasure to win a tournament. Morever, I have not win an individual [tournament] in a while.” When asked about her future plans, she said that she have lots of plans for this year but they are all about chess. She plans to take part in «Aeroflot Open» in a few days and then Russian Team Championship, and then she hopes to be nominated from Russia to FIDE Grand Prix. Subsequently she plans to participate in two team competitions this year – European Championship and World Championship.
She quipped that in the near future she will be seen at the chess board fairly often.
In second place was Batkhuyag Munguntuul of Mongolia with 7.0 points and in third was Zhao Xue of China with 5.5 points.
