Czebe Attila Melaka International 2012 Champion!

1 May 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The Historical Melaka International Open 2012 was won by GM Czebe Attila of Hungary with unassailable 7.5 points. The score is 1.5 points ahead of the nearest challenger, GM Laxman R R of India at 6.0 points and third, GM Deepan Chakkravarthy J of India.

Meanwhile contrary to earlier leads, Endang Andrian claim the Challengers title by winning his last round against Yusoff Fairul on second board and Gatot Suyono of Indonesia lost dramatically to Fong Choong Ee of Malaysia on top board. Endang scored 7.5 points with higher tie-break points and declared the winner. Gatot also scored 7.5 points but ended in second place. In third place is Wakoko Enos of Ugandan with 7.0 points. He beat Latifah Kaysiyah bt Mohd Latif of Malaysia on third board.

Yeoh Li Tian won his last round game, Melaka International 2012

30 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Here is Yeoh Li Tian’s last round game against Indonesian FM Hamdani Rudin of the Historical Melaka Open International Chess 2012 held at the Hang Tuah World Heritage Hotel, Malacca.

 

Li TIan ended with two black queens on e3 and d1 with one move for checkmate 45….Qh1# mate!

 

At this rate of play, Yeoh Li Tian will be looking at GM status pretty soon if he plays regularly in FIDE-Rated Tournaments. A natural flair at finding the check mate patterns on the board.

Czebe Continues His Winning Ways, Melaka International 2012

29 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – As GM Czebe Attila continues his winning ways by beating GM Arun Prasad of India on top board of round 8, Historical Melaka International Open Championship 2012 as part of the Melaka Chess Festival 2012 this afternoon. Czebe scores 7.0 points after 8 rounds of play.

Meanwhile local dynamo, Yeoh Li Tian creates another surprise win against GM Horvath Adam of Hungary on board 6. IM Mas drew against IM Nolte of Philippines and Zulkipli Zaidan drew against Asian Master, Ahmad Fadzil Nayan. While Ismail Ahmad, WFM Alia Bakri lost their respective games. Lim Kim Hwa won his board game against Hendrik. Syazrin had a forfeit win in round 8.

Gatot Leads In Melaka Challengers 2012

28 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In the Melaka Challengers 2012, Gatot Suyono of Indonesia is sole leader with 6.5 points after round 7. In second place is Endang Andrian of Indonesia with 6.0 points. Meanwhile Wakoko Enos of Uganda is in third place with 5.5 points.

Malaysia’s highest ranked challenger is sixth ranked Ramli Abdul Rahim (1944) with 5.0 points.

Here are two games of the current leader, Gatot Suyono of Indonesia. One is against Malaysia’s Ramli Abdul Rahim and the other against second ranked, Endang Andrian of Indonesia.

28 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – It is a free day for the Melaka Chess Festival 2012 players. However, let us look at a few games of round 7 of the Melaka International Open 2012 held yesterday in Melaka.

 

Here are two games of round 7, the first game is between Arun Prasad of India with the white pieces

 

White has the slight edge with an extra pawn. Both have a bishop and a rook. But white’s pawns comprised of three connected pawns against black’s two connected pawns.

Yeoh Li Tian (pix left above) caused a stir yesterday by winning against the beautiful WGM Nadig Kruttika of India. The game of round 7 is shown below:-

 

 

Yeoh sacrificed his queen at b8, 24.Qb8+, then if black plays 24…Nxb8, then 25.Rc8 # mate!

Czebe’s game against Fominyh, Historical Melaka International 2012

 

26 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Here is a round 5 game between Czebe Attila and Fominyh Alexander of the Historical Melaka International Open 2012. Czebe played the white pieces and won.

After round 6 today, Czebe Attila is the sole leader with 5.5 points. He beat IM Rathnakaran K of India on top board today. Trailing by a full point behind are GM Richard Bitoon of Philippines and GM Romero Holmes Alfonso of Spain with 4.5 points. Both Bitoon and Romero won their respective round 6 games.

6 Players At The Top, Melaka Open

24 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur - In Melaka, the chess connections blog reported that it was an interesting fight to the end although the results of the top 6 tables indicated otherwise - with all players agreeing to a draw.

The first draw was registered between GM Laxman and GM Deepan, both of India followed by GM Arun Prasad of India and FM Hamdani Rudin of Indonesia. The match on Table 1 between GM Richard Bitoon and GM Alexander was the last game to finish a draw on the top board after a grueling 56 move game.

Other notable games were Manaog Stewart win against Kruttika Nadig on Table 11, Tan Li Ting triumphant against Syazrin Abdul Rahman and Yeoh Li Tian convincing win against Ismail Ahmad on Table 12.

For Round 4, six co leaders with 2 1/2 points will battle it out on the top 3 tables - GM Forminyh against IM Dimakiling on Table 1, GM Czebe and GM Laxman on Table 2 and GM Bitoon against GM Deepan on Table 3. Malaysian youngster Yeoh Li Tian will be playing the black pieces against IM Nolte of the Philippines and Tan Li Ting will go against WGM Kruttika Nadig of India on Table 11 also with the black pieces.

MAS, Yeoh Making Progress

24 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur - In Melaka, the first round of the Melaka International Open Chess Championship 2012 had taken place yesterday with 36 players participating. Most of the favorites won.

None of the Malaysians won except for two. IM MAS Hafizulhelmi and Yeoh Li Tian.

Yeoh Li Tian will meet IM Dimakiling Oliver of the Philippines in round two. Meanwhile IM MAS will meet GM Deepan Chakkarvarthy of India. We wish them luck as these are opportunities for them to gain norms and make progress up the ladder of success.

JTR Wins Team Event Melaka Chess Festival 2012

23 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur - JTR won the five round rapid team event held on Sunday 22 April 2012. JTR scored 5 team wins with Cheah Cheok Fung, Ong Thian Loon on the team.

Second was ROSNEFT with 4 wins. Team Rosneft had two FMs and Greg Lau on the team. Third place was Samarinda Chess. Eighteen teams participated in this event.

Bitoon Richard Wins Melaka Campomanes Rapid 2012

22 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Here are the final top 24 players of the just concluded Florencio Campomanes Memorial International Rapid Chess Championship 2012 750 Years Melaka International Chess Festival.

The champion of the Rapid belongs to GM Bitoon Richard (pix above) of Philippines with 8.5 points after the completion of 11 rounds of rapid play. Second, IM Dimakiling Oliver of Philippines, also scored 8.5 points. Third, GM Iuldachev Saidali of Uzbekistan with 8 points.

The highest Malaysian finisher goes to 14th ranked IM Mok Tze-Meng with 7 points.

Czebe Attila, Leader After Round 8, Melaka Campomanes Rapid 2012

22 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In the Melaka Campomanes International Rapid 2012, GM Czebe Attila (pix above) of Hungary was in the lead with 7 points after eight rounds of rapid play. He beat IM Rathnakaran K of India on top board. Rathnakaran was in second place behind Czebe with 6.5 points.

Five players are bunched up at 6.0 points. They are GM Megaranto of Indonesia, GM Bitoon Richard of Philippines, IM Karthikeyan P of India, GM Laxman RR of India and Malaysia’s IM Mok Tze-Meng.

Latest News: It is reported that GM Richard Bitoon of Philippines managed to top the table and appears to be the No.1. Meanwhile second spot belongs to IM Oliver Dimakiling of Philippines. Malaysia’s IM Mok Tze-Meng was reportedly to have finished in 14th spot. All results however are unofficial and requires confirmation from the organisers of Melaka Chess Festival 2012.
