In the thrilling middle-game, Lim sacrificed a knight on the 59th move …Nxc5+ for an attack on white’s king but the hope of a black win did not materialise as white was about to checkmate black in four moves.

High flyer IM Rombaldoni suffered his first serious loss against GM Hovhannisyan of Armenia in the eighth round yesterday. Meanwhile FM Girish A Koushik of India continued his giant killing ways by disposing GM Grandelius Nils of Sweden. Top seed, GM Matlakov of Russia continue to underperform by losing to Armenian GM Ter-Sahakyan Samvel. GM Sjugirov Sanan of Russia was held back to a draw agaisnt FM Kovalev Vladislav of Bulgaria.
Meanwhile Lim Zhou Ren with 3 points on hand will now meet Yohan J of India in the ninth round today, 11th August 2011.
