28 August 2011, Kuala Lumpur - GM Wang Rui of China won the 7 round Swiss-System Merdeka Individual Rapid 2011 by scoring 6.0points and a superior tie-break pts. Three others scored 6.0 pts comprising of GM Sanchez Joseph, PHI, IM Barbosa Oliver, PHI, IM Yu Lie of China.
Notably, NM Lim Zhuo Ren of Malaysia scored 5.5 pts with a respectable 8th placing.
