Gunina – Kosintseva - Muzychuk Wins European Women’s Individual 2012

15 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Turkey, IM Valentina Gunina turn the tables on the top seed GM Anna Muzychuk of Slovenia by winning on top board in the 11th round of the European Women’s Individual 2012 last Tuesday, 13th March 2012 in Gaziantep, Turkey.

As a result, giving IM Valentina Gunina of Russia, joint first place with GM Tatiana Kosintseva of Russia and GM Anna Muzychuk scoring 8.5 points each. All three winners earned the top prize. However due to the better performance of Valentina Gunina, she has been declared the new European Champion.

Meanwhile Tatiana Kosintseva is awarded second place and Anna Muzychuk is on the third position.

Gunina, Foisor Co-Leaders At Euro Women’s Individual 2012

10 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Turkey, Gunina Valentina became the new leader at the European Women’s Individual after winning against Hoang Thanh Trang on top board during round 7.

Gunina and Foisor share the leadership with 6 points each. Followed closely by top seed, Anna Muzychuk and Hoang at third spot with 5.5 points each.

In the seventh round, top seed IM Anna Muzychuk met GM Marie Sebag, the early leader during the European Women’s Individual Chess Championship 2012. Muzychuk had a white d-pawn on d7 with a rook and knight against black’s bishop and knight. As black will soon be a piece down if white queens its pawn at d8 and black takes it with the bishop, giving white to win it with the white rook at h8. Muzhchuk won this crucial game against Sebag giving her an important point and catapulting her back into contention at third rank after the seventh round with 5.5 points.

Sebag Draws In Fifth Round

7 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In the European Women’s Individual Chess Championship 2012 in Gaziantrep, Turkey, GM Sebag Marie drew on top board against IM Gunina Valentina of Russia. Three players are now jointly leading comprising of Sebag, Foisor and Hoang with 4.5 points after fifth round of the European Women’s Individual Chess Championship 2012.

 

During the fifth round, the Hungarian GM Hoang Thanh Trang checkmated WIM Ziaziulkina Natassia of Burundi on the third board. Hoang played black and checkmated white with a rook. White’s a-pawn captured black’s pawn on the 37th move, inadvertently opening the a-column for an attack by black leading to the checkmate position.

 

 

Here is the fifth round game between GM Kateryna Lahno of Ukraine and WGM Mihaela Sandu of Romania. Lahno playing black won the game. The position looks balanced but white surrendered with black ahead by a pawn.

Sebag Marie Leads Euro Women Individual 2012

6 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Gaziantep Turkey, GM Sebag Marie of France is in the lead with 4 points from four rounds of the European Women’s Individual Chess Championship 2012. Sebag beat Cmilyte last night during the fourth round.

Just trailing behind in a group of six players all scoring 3.5 points comprise of WGM Chleining, IM Gunina, IM Foisor, IM Khurtsidze, WIM Ziaziulkina and GM Hoang Thanh Trang.

Sebag, Cmilyte and Foisor Joint Leaders At Euro Women’s Individual 2012

5 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Gaziantep, Turkey, three players are joint leaders comprising of GM Marie Sebag of France, GM Viktorija Cmilyte of Lithuania and IM Cristina-Adela Foisor of Romania with 3 points from three rounds of play of the European Women’s Individual Chess Championship 2012.

The official website reported that after the third round of the European Individual Women Championship, only three players from the whole tournament left with 100%. Defending European champion Viktorija Cmilyte won the game against Jovana Vojinovic, Cristina-Adela Foisor and Marie Sebag were stronger in the games against Tatjana Kosintseva and Natasa Bojkovic accordingly.

On the first board former world champion Antoaneta Stefanova made a draw with Salome Melia. Hilal Ozturk shows the best result among Turkish players. In the third round she defeated Anastasia Savina whose rating is 550 points above the Turkish youngster. Another Turkish player Kubra Ozturk starts to score and gained her first point by winning nice game against Roberta Messina. Muzychuk's sisters got quite dangerous positions today but both of them managed to secure half a point.

3 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur – In Turkey, the round 1 of the European Womens Individual Chess Championship 2012 took place and some surprises awaited for the early favourites.

Here the top seed, Anna Muzychuk had a tough time with her board one opponent, Anastasia Savina. Anna played black and ended in a nail-biting draw.
