Nguyen Duc Hoa Leads Into Final Round KL Open

9 September 2011, Kuala Lumpur - In the Dr Nazrin Shah International Open 2011, IM Nguyen Duc Hoa of Vietnam leads after the 8th round with 7 points. He drew against IM Ranola Yves on first board.

Five players are bunched at 6 points - Dimakiling, Ranola, Yap, Purnama, Olay.

Barbosa Leads in KL MASTERS



9 September 2011, Kuala Lumpur - IM Barbosa Oliver (pix above) is the current Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Invitational Masters 2011 leader after the 7th round with 6.0 points. Barbosa beat Ngyuyen Van Huy in the 7th round.

Meanwhile Malaysia's top player IM MAS Hafizulhelmi have scored 1.5 points with three draws from three bottom half players - Wong, Van Huy and Anh Dung.





There are two more rounds, this afternoon and tomorrow morning, 10 September 2011. The top three players - Barbosa, Vakhidov and Bitoon are each separated by half a point each. How each finish in the next two rounds will be crucial.

6 September 2011, Kuala Lumpur – The Star Online highlights Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Masters and International Open 2011 in the Metro Section of the newspaper.

The Star reported that KLCA president and Masterskill Education Group Bhd group CEO Datuk Seri Edmund Santhara said: “Masterskill is excited to see that the game of chess has grown by leaps and bounds, as this is our fourth year running this event. The talents that we see now is amazing.”

He expressed his pleasure at seeing more and more young people coming forward to hone their skills in the game of chess.

Malaysia’s hopes will rest on 18-year-old national champion Lim Zhou Ren as he heads the local challenge while the country’s best young talents, Under-14 Boys champion, Roshan Ajeet Singh and Under-14 Girls champion, Tan Li Ting together with Penang-based brother-and-sister team — Under-10 Boys champion Teh De Juan and the Under-10 Girls champion Teh De Zen — are also ready to take on the challenge.

Vakhidov Jahongir Early Leader

6 September 2011, Kuala Lumpur - The young IM Vakhidov Jahongir continues to win in his third round of the KL Invitational Masters 2011, Jahongir has three full points and is the early leader. IM MAS Hafizulhelmi gets his first half point of the tournament with a draw against GM Wong Meng Kong of Singapore.

Barbosa, Vakhidov Joint Leaders KL Masters

5 September 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Both IM Barbosa Oliver of the Philippines and IM Vakhidov Jahongir of Uzbekistan jointly leads the DYTM Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Invitational Masters. Both scored two points from two rounds of play.

IM Mas Hafizulhelmi of Malaysia, unfortunately has not scored any points yet. Let’s hope his fortunes will turn for the better in the third round tomorrow. He lost to IM Das Arghyadip of India and GM Vakhidov Tahir of Uzbekistan.

Dimakiling Among 9 Players With Full Points

5 September 2011, Kuala Lumpur – A total of 9 players scored the full two points after two rounds. The strange thing is all of them are IMs and no GMs amongst them. The GMs either scored draws or lost one of the rounds.

IMs that lead include Kelly Brian, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Liu Qingnan, Roy Chowdhury Saptarshi, Dimakiling Oliver, Yap Kim Steven, Duong The Anh, Purnama Tirta Chandra and Ranola Yves.

Kuala Lumpur Open Begins Today!

4 September 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Three GMs are participating in this year’s renamed Kuala Lumpur Chess Open to DYTM Raja Dr Nazrin Shah International Open. The three GMs are GM Sachez Joseph of Philippines, GM Megaranto Susanto of Indonesia and GM Barus Cerdas, also of Indonesia. Sixty eight players are registered for the Open Category. Malaysia’s NM Lim Zhuo Ren and NWM WCM Nur Nabila bt Azman Hisham will be both participating in this year’s International Open. Past NWM Tan Li Ting will also play.

In parallel with the International Open will be the Masters category of which 10 selected players will be playing a one-round robin of 9 rounds of classical chess. Among them will be 3 GMs and 7 IMs, of which IM Mas Hafizulhelmi will be one of them. The three grandmasters are GM  Nguyen Anh Dung of Vietnam, GM Wong Meng Kong of Singapore and GM Vakhidov Tahir of Uzbekistan.

KL Open Renames, Revises Entry Fees

6 June 2011, Kuala Lumpur – The Kuala Lumpur Open due in September 2011 has revised downwards its entry fees and at the same time renames Kuala Lumpur Open as Raja Nazrin Shah Masters and International Open Chess Championship 2011.

The prizes and entry fees were readjusted downwards as follows:

1. RM 5,000, 2. RM 3,000, 3. RM 2,000, 4. RM 1,000, 5-10. RM 500
Special Prizes
Women & U-16 (Each): 1. RM 1,000, 2. RM 500
