Newsletter of Asian Chess Federation – 19th July 2012

23 July 2012, Kuala Lumpur – The Asian Chess Federation has circulated the latest newsletter dated 19th July 2012 on the happenings of asian chess. This time it focuses some selected country specific chess events and KaSUGI Team event in Malaysia was included.

Prospero A. Pichay, Jr. and Mayor Abraham Tolentino were re-elected to the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) at its General Assembly on 7th June at the Department of Education Complex in Pasig City, Philippines. Boracay Hosts Battle of Philippine Grandmasters

The Philippines' top chess players match wits in Boracay island paradise from July 14th to 26th with the staging of the 2012 National Open Chess Championships for men and women. Manila wins KaSUGI team championship in Kuala Lumpur

Apocalypse-Manila Chess Team, led by International Master Ronald Bancod proved unstoppable, winning the KaSUGI Chess Team Championship 2012 (Open) over the 14-15 July weekend at the Citi Tel Express Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Visit ACF site for more info.

 

ASEAN Chess Confederation Facebook Page Created

See http://www.facebook.com/asean.chess for all ASEAN Chess activities and social networking. ASEAN Secretary Haslindah Ruslan of Malaysia was assigned to monitor and manage the social networking site. Data/information of events/programs will be forwarded to Nguyen Phuoc Trung of Vietnam for editing of an ASEAN web site.

 

New Sri Lanka Chess Federation Web Site

The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka announces their new web site www.cfslonline.com. They announce the 5th Mora Kings International Rating Chess Championships organized by the University of Moratuwa, on behalf of CFSL, to be held at the University of Moratuwa from 3rd (arrival) to 9th (departure) of August 2012 with a total cash prize of nearly Rs. 250,000/= worth. Ramadan Rapid Tournament in Abu Dhabi

The Armed Forces Officers Club will organize the Ramadan Open Chess tournament from 22 to 25 July 2012, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Chess & Culture Club, at the Armed Forces Officers Club in Abu Dhabi, UAE with four separate tournaments, an $8,000 Masters tournament, $2,000 Ladies tournament, $2,000 Youth tournament and $1,300 Blitz tournament. Australian FM Christopher Wallis wins NZ North Island

Australian FM Christopher Wallis scored 7/8 to win the New Zealand North Island Championship which was held at the Auckland Chess Centre, 11-14 July 2012. New Zealand Junior Champion and Olympiad player Luke Li finished second with 6.5 points, a full point ahead of third placed FM Robert Smith and FM Michael Steadman. Australian National University (ANU) Open

The Australian National University (ANU) Chess Open will be held on 28th and 29th of July at the Canberra School of Art, Building 105, ANU, Acton, Canberra ACT. It will be a seven round swiss event, Class 4 in the Myer Tan Australian Grand Prix. Visit ACF site for details.

 

Luke Li wins New Zealand Junior Championship

Luke Li (2332) scored 6.5/7 to win the 2012 New Zealand Junior Championship held 3-6 July 2012 at Waitakere in Auckland. Hans Guo (2218) finished in outright second place with 6/7 in a field of 45 players. Visit ACF site for details.

India top Asian Youth Championships in Sri Lanka






 

Asian Chess Federation Secretary General Hisham Al Taher awarding team medals to the Girls Under-18 at the Asian Youth Championships in Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka.  

 

India and 5 other Countries win Gold in Asian Youth

India, Iran, Vietnam, China, Philippines and Mongolia won gold medals in the Asian Youth Championships, 24 June-2 July 2012 in Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka. Visit the Asian Chess Federation site for Medal Tally, photo sessions of all age groups and related news.

Ari Dale, Vineetha Wijesuriya and Tarek Al-Taher win the 2012 Asian Amateur. Ton Luchtmeijer wins Seniors.

Australian junior Ari Dale won the 2012 Asian Amateur Championship held 1-8 June 2012 at the Parramatta RSL Chess Club in Sydney. Vineetha Wijesuriya got the Women's title while Tarek Al Taher won the unrated. Ton Luchtmeijer topped the Asian Seniors. Visit ACF site for photos of Asian Amateur and Asian Seniors.

Quadruple Victory for India in Asian Juniors and Girls

Srinath Narayanan and Ivana Maria Furtado, both of India, won the Asian Juniors and Girls Championships, respectively, held  29th May to 8th June 2012 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Compatriots Swayams Mishra and Kulkarni Bhakti won the parallel junior and girls blitz championships, respectively. Visit the ACF site for photos, standings and pgn files.

China, India, Vietnam win honors in Asian Nations Cup

China scored a double victory in the Open and Women's divisions of the Asian Nations Cup held 15-27 May 2012 in Zaozhuang, China. India and Vietnam won silver and bronze medals, respectively. Asian Chess Federation president Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifah Al Nahyan opened the tournament. See ACF site for final standings. Vietnam men and Chinese women won the blitz championship. 10th July Deadline for Registration in Istanbul Olympiad

The Organizing Committee has sent a reminder that 10th July 2012 is the deadline for the online registration to complete all registration process and information of delegations. After that date, online registration will be closed. Find more information at this link.

Leong re-elected ASEAN Chess Confederation President

The Annual General Meeting of the ASEAN Chess Confederation was held 16th June 2012 concurrent with the 13th ASEAN Age Group Championships in Hue, Vietnam. The ten countries comprising the Association, namely Brunei Darusallam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam re-elected Ignatius Leong President. 1st ASEAN International Youth Championships 2012

This event is organized by the Singapore Chess Federation under the auspices of the Singapore Sports Council, 6-12th of August 2012 with a prize fund of S$44,000. Visit the official web site.
