23 January 2013, Kuala Lumpur – Here is a round 9 game between GM Magnus Carlsen and former World Women’s Champion GM Hou Yifan of China at the 75th Tata Steel Chess Championship 2013 at Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. Carlsen is a clear point ahead with 7 points.
Chessvibes reported that Magnus Carlsen, who won as expected against the last seeded participant and tail-ender Hou Yifan, gained 8.7 rating points so far in Wijk aan Zee which would bring his already highest rating ever of 2861 to 2869.7. It's hard to believe that the world's number one is getting away from 2850 even further, into the direction of 2900s.
It was a "nice surprise" for Carlsen that someone would play the Ponziani against him and indeed this was a funny opening choice by the Chinese, as Carlsen had played this very rare opening earlier in the tournament, against Harikrishna. Here's the game, and below it Carlsen's explanation:

22 January 2013, Kuala Lumpur – Chessvibes reported that it's clear that it was only for one day that Carlsen wasn't feeling too well - this was when he drew with Anand in a Petroff. He followed up with a win against Sokolov and a draw with Leko, and on Sunday the Norwegian showed once again what kind of chess he plays when he is full of energy. As John Saunders remarked, Carlsen is making the endgame cool!
Here is the round 8 game between Carlsen and Karjakin of the 75th Tata Steel Chess 2013, Grandmaster Group A, Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. Carlsen won with white pieces.
