3 October 2011, Kuala Lumpur – In Bandar Seri Iskandar, Tronoh, Perak, the National Rapid Chess Championship 2011 Open Category was won by Sumant Subramaniam (pix above) with 7 full points from 7 rounds. He beat 60 other players who participated in the two-day event held on 1-2 October 2011. In second place was National Master Tan Khai Boon with 6.5 points and third place Ian Udani, also with 6.5 points.
Meanwhile in the Under-16 category, Kellie Lim Pei Ying won with 6.5 points and a superior tie-break points. In second place was Tan Wei Kit also with 6.5 points. Third place was won by Elvis Woo Yi Shien with 6.0 points.
