Readjusted Final Tables, No-Frills Tournament

5 October 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Due to the new released National Ratings 2010 for the month of October 2010, the arbiter for the No Frills Tournament has redid the final tables for the No-Frills October Tournament held at the Excel Chess Academy, OUG, Kuala Lumpur last 3rd October 2010.

The tournament performance for some players would now be more reflective of their new ratings. The winner, Tin Jun Hao, has a much higher rating of 1564 and an even higher tournament performance of 1826!! And Ethan Wong’s new rating is 1525 and has a tournament performance of 1715!

NO FRILLS CHESS TOURNAMENT

THERE WILL BE A PROMOTIONAL CHESS TOURNAMENT HELD IN EXCEL CHESS ACADEMY ON 15th OF AUGUST 2010 (SUNDAY). OVER FIVE ROUNDS OF 20 MINUTES PLUS 30 SECONDS INCREMENTAL TIME. PLEASE REGISTER LATEST BY 14th AUGUST 2010 (SATURDAY) THROUGH SMS OR EMAIL. ALL PLAYERS WHO REGISTER MUST ARRIVE BY 9.30 a.m. RECORDING THE GAMES ARE COMPULSORY FOR ALL PLAYERS. NO FEES WILL BE COLLECTED. HOWEVER, A PENALTY OF RM 10.00 WILL BE CHARGED FOR CHESS PLAYERS WHO ARE LATE, PLEASE BE PUNCTUAL.

Fireyrook Catches Fire in First Saturday Classical Chess 2010, February Edition

In the last round of the First Saturday Classical Chess February 2010 edition, Firey Rook met up with Low Jun Keat to determine the top five finishers of the tournament.

Firey rook had to try something new against this young player. Firey rook chose the Morra Gambit of the Sicilian against Low Jun Keat who has a National Rating of 1590. Here is how the game transpired, it ended  in 18 moves with a definite win for white.

First mistake of the game - Black played 6….Bg4 which is an opening trap in this scenario. The black bishop is a loose piece that can be won enprise. White followed up with 7.Bxf7+ Kxf7, 8.Ng5+ and the black bishop is lost to the Queen.

Second mistake of the game and it was fatal! Black played 15….Qxb2 ??, this allowed white to sacrifice the rook at d4 and checks the black King, leaving the black King defenceless in the middle of the board. The end came quickly.
