5 January 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Here is a spattering of pictures of scenes of the 3rd IIUM Invitational Chess Tournament held on 31st December 2010-2nd January 2011 at the Cultural Activity Center (CAC) of the International Islamic University of Malaysia in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur.

 

Ian Udani Is IIUM Open Champion

2 January 2011, Kuala Lumpur – At the Cultural Activity Center (CAC) International Islamic University Malaysia, Ian Udani (picture above) scored 7 pts out of 8 rounds of rapid play. Time control was 45 minutes per player. Ian Udani managed to beat Fariz in the sixth round earlier this morning in the sixth round. Ian Udani was declared the Open IIUM Chess Champion.

 

In second place is Kamalarifin Wahiduddin (pix left above) with 6.5 points, third Nik Ahmad Farouqi Nik Mat (pix right above) with 6.5 points as well, fourth Mohd Saprin Sabri, the Malay Chess Champion 2010 and fifth, Fariz Shafruddin, both scored 6 points.

In the under-21 category, Muhd Syazwan b Zulkifli scored an incredible 7.5 points from 8 rounds of play.

Fariz Leads At IIUM Open Invitational

 

2 January 2011, Kuala Lumpur - Pairing and standings for both Open and U-21 section for the IIUM Chess Tournament which started earlier yesterday at the Cultural Activity Center of UIA Gombak campus and ends today. Five rounds concluded yesterday with 3 more rounds to play today. Round 6 is scheduled to start at 9:00 am with Prize Giving Ceremony scheduled at 3:00pm. Plenty of prizes for the various categories with the eventual winner bagging RM1,000 plus medals and certificates. There is also Lucky Draws during the Prize Giving Ceremony with 15 prizes up for grabs including 6 Grand Prizes.

Currently leading is Fariz Shafruddin with 5 points from five rounds. Full points so far. Ian Udani is in second place with 4.5 points.

3rd IIUM Invitational Chess Open Update!

23 December 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Latest: For those chess enthusiasts interested in participating in the upcoming year end 3rd IIUM Invitational Chess Open 2010 in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur which will be held on 31st December 2010 – 2nd January 2011, the organisers have sent out an alert that you must submit your entry by tomorrow latest, 24th December 2010, to not incur penalties.

Any entries received beyond the 24th December 2010, entrance fees will be doubled!!!

Another alert to take note is that the organisers will only accept "walk-in" players before 8 am in the morning of the 1st January 2011! So you have been warned!!

3rd IIUM Chess Invitational Tournament 2010

1 December 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Here is a new chess tournament to consider in the coming new year at the International Islamic University of Malaysia. IIUM Sports & Recreational Centre will be organizing the 3^rd IIUM Chess Invitational Tournament 2010 scheduled to be held from 31^st December 2010 until 2^nd January 2011 at Cultural Activity Centre (CAC), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Gombak. This tournament will be divided into three categories which are open category, under-21 category and under-12 category. The time control is 25 minutes per game/per player.

Registration Fees and Tentative Programme 31st December 2010 – 2nd January 2011 are shown below:-

RULES AND REGULATIONS
1) This tournament is restricted to FIDE laws of tournament.
2) The time control is 25 minutes per game/per player. The adjustment of this time control is due to the numbers of participants.
3) One winner is eligible to one prize only.
4) All decisions are final.
