17 December 2010, Kuantan – At the Sukan Kerja Raya Chess Team Tournament held at Wisma Belia building in Kuantan, Pahang, seven team vy to become the champion of the Chess Team event.
At the end of the sixth round, CIDB chess team has emerged as the winning team (pix left) with a score of 19 pts and 10 MP. They have successfully defended the title they won in Malacca in 2008.
In second place is Jabatan Kerja Raya (Pahang, pix below) which consisted of three State – MAKSAK chess players. They scored 16.5 pts and 10 MP.
In third place was won by Kementerian Kerja Raya chess team with a score of 15.5 pts and 8 MP.
Best board 1 went to Mohd Jamal b Jamaludin of JKR chess team and Best board 2 went to Che Zakaria Aziz of CIDB chess team.
For the record, this is the first time that team KKR has won a respectable third placing. Scoring draws against the early favorites, CIDB and PLUS was a major milestone for team KKR. Last two years in Malacca, KKR team was placed in fifth place behind CIDB, PLUS, KESAS and MTD. So winning a top three finish this year is really great and fantastic!
At the same time, hosts JKR Pahang sent a very strong and respectable chess team, scoring a major win over KKR and two important draws with CIDB and PLUS.
Earlier this morning the fifth round was held at 8 am and the crucial match between JKR and PLUS was played. The match ended with a major draw 2-2 for both teams. This allowed JKR to remain near the top and PLUS pushed to fourth placing behind team KKR.
