Carlsen suffers upsets in Gashimov Memorial 2014, AZE

27 April 2014, Kuala Lumpur - Two games that World Champion Magnus Carlsen lost recently in the Vugar Gashimov Memorial 2014 in Shamkir, Azerbaijan. Carlsen suffered losses in rounds 4 and 5 against Fabiano Caruana of Italy and Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan

Here are the two important games involving the World Champion shown below.

1st game Magnus Carlsen lost to Fabiano Caruana of Italy in round 4.

Kasparov in Malaysia

Kasparov Simul at PICC 2014

26 April 2014, Kuala Lumpur – The Malaysian Chess Federation in collaboration with other NGOs co-organised a fund-raising dinner at Putrajaya International Convention Center (PICC) in conjunction with Ex-World Chess Champion, GM Garry Kasparov’s visit to Malaysia. Malaysia’s Sports Minister, YB Khairy Jamaluddin gave a welcoming speech and honoured Kasparov’s visit here to Malaysia during the dinner.

Garry Kasparov did a six match simul with chess enthusiasts and won 6-0 with 15 minutes time control.

During the dinner, Datuk Tan Chin Nam, “Father of Malaysian Chess” was honoured by the Sports Minister for his many generous support of chess. He was the founding president of the Malaysian Chess Federation in the 1970s. Dato’ Tan has spent over 30 years of his life as benefactor and organizer of nearly every great chess event held in Malaysia. A generation of young chess masters developed to maturity thanks in significant part to his organisational efforts and financial generosity. Dato’ Tan describes chess as “ a game that forces one to think, it teaches discipline.”

Gula Perlis Open Chess Challenge 2014, 24th May 2014

2 April 2014, Kuala Lumpur – The upcoming Gula Perlis Open Chess Challenge 2014 sponsored by Kilang Gula FELDA Perlis Sdn Bhd in conjunction with His Royal Highness DYMM Raja Perlis 71st Royal Birthday Celebrations. The tournament venue will be held at Putra Palace Hotel, Kangar, Perlis. The chess event has six separate categories, namely, Open, Open Perlis, Secondary School, Secondary School Perlis, Primary School Boys, Primary School Girls.
